Support - What Can Members Do?
See information about the Foundation Appeal launched in November 2007
based on an extract from Newsletter 2004
- Offer their services by telephoning Joan Bond on 01252 543818 to:
- act as Voluntary Library Assistants when the service resumes at St Michael's Abbey. Clearly this will be easier for those who live in the Farnborough area. A commitment to at least a half day a week is required. The Abbot already has several people in the Farnborough area who are interested in helping, several of whom are trained Librarians;
- assist with the computer work under the guidance of the Librarian and Fr. William Joseph and Mary Ransom. Members who are interested in how the Library has been perceived on the Internet even during the time that it was not open to members should view the document: Internet Presence - A statement of Worth on our web site or request a copy by post or by Email. It is based on data about visits to our web-site collected for us by our Internet Service Provider, ByteHaven Ltd.
- assist in the process of fund-raising either with clerical or promotional work which will be London-based. There will be new literature about the Appeal and members might like to indicate if they would be ready to distribute this to their contacts;
- encourage others who might have an interest in the Library's vast collection of books, all of which will soon be readily accessible, to join up as a member of the Library. Those with access to the Internet should be urged to look at our web-site www.catholic-library.org.uk.
- Renew their subscriptions as soon as they fall due. In fact the trustees have decided that existing membership will be automatically restarted and run for a full year from the date of the reopening of the Library.
- Make a donation now towards the costs of getting the Library back into service. The more generous members are, the better the service will be able to be, and the earlier we will be able to reopen. Cheques should be made payable for this purpose to the Catholic National Library and sent to Joan Bond at the Library. Members who are tax payers may tick and sign on the form below to specify that they wish their donation to be treated as Gift Aid. Since the Library is a registered charity, this will enable the amount of the donation to be increased significantly as the Library will be able to make a claim on the Inland Revenue for this extra amount. The donation is also an accepted tax-deduction-against-the-donor's-own-tax-liability.
- Indicate now to Joan Bond that they would like to visit the Library in due course when it is reasonably near to being ready for its official reopening. If there is sufficient interest the Library would seek to arrange transport for a party of members to visit St Michael's Abbey and see our new premises. There is a guided tour of the Abbey every Saturday at 3.30pm, and on Bank holiday Mondays.
